Care
It is recommended that you do not wash your De La Costa wool items often.
Wool absorbs and locks away odors during wear. The wool fiber actively binds odors within the fiber where bacteria do not thrive. As a result, the garment remains fresh for much longer.
To extend the life of your wool garments:
-
Airing
You can lengthen the time between washings by laying them flat indoors or outdoors between wears. - Folding & Storage
Knitted garments should be gently folded and stored in drawers. We do not recommend hanging sweaters as the hanger can cause stretching over time.
Since food stains and body oils attract moths, you should ensure your wool garment is clean before packing it away in airtight bags or containers. Ideally use a Woolmark-endorsed moth repellent but do not place directly on the garment. - Resting
Rest wool garments for 24 hours before wearing again. This gives the natural resilience and spring in the wool fiber time to recover and return to its original shape.
To wash your wool garments we recommend the following:
- Turn your garments inside out.
- Fill a large bowl or bathtub with lukewarm water.
- Add a small amount of mild or wool detergent.
- Soak for 10 minutes.
- Rinse in lukewarm water.
- Then rinse again in cold water.
- Gently press out the water from your garment but DO NOT WRING it out.
- Lay your garment flat to dry.
We DO NOT recommend washing your wool garments in the washing machine as each piece is knitted by hand and could be significantly damaged due to its delicacy.
